Description

This course provides a unified introduction to the information sciences and their impact on society. Skills, knowledge, and values relevant to the information sciences are explored in various contexts, including business, non-profits, service organizations, education, and society at large. Required for Computer Science majors; also meets General Education Mathematical Science requirement. (Offered Fall semester)

Course Objectives

  1. To give students a practical understanding of the fields in the Information Sciences.
  2. To expand students’ proficiency with computer applications and technologies through both individual and collaborative projects.
  3. To show students how skills from the Information Sciences can be applied in a wide variety of contexts, including businesses, non-profits, service organizations, and educational institutions.
  4. To help students explore their interest in and aptitude for careers involving the use of computers, and to equip them to choose an academic path toward their professional goals.
  5. To equip students to communicate effectively both about technology and using technology.
