Requirements

In today's in-class assignment, you will begin to develop your ideas for your own website that you will be developing. I'd like you to look at the intersection of three areas: your passion, your talents, and society's need.

  1. Your passion
    • What excites you? Do you love playing soccer? Singing? Painting? Making jokes? Traveling? Speaking another language? List as many things as you can think of.
    • If your friends wanted to plan a day of fun for you, what activities should they include?
    • What, if anything, could you NEVER give up?
    • What have you secretly dreamed of, but may have been afraid to pursue? Winning American Idol? Completing an Ironman Triathlon? Getting A's in all your classes? Making a million dollars by developing an iPhone game?
    • Do you love your major? Why? What drew you to it? If you were independently wealthy and didn't need to work, would you choose a different major?
    • What are your hobbies? What do you do in your free time? If you had a week of uninterrupted "me" time, what would you do?
    • What do you like to read about? Do you regularly read any blogs or other news pages? Which ones?
  2. Your talents
    • What skills or talents have you received compliments for, from parents, teachers, siblings, pastors, friends, or others?
    • Have you ever won any awards for something you've done -- an art show, or singing competition, essay contest, etc.?
    • What things come relatively easy to you, but not necessarily to other people?
    • Think of experiences that you've been involved in: sports teams, school newspaper, debate club, worship team, youth ministry, etc. What skills have you practiced in these contexts?
    • Fill in the blank: People always come to me when they are looking for someone who ___________ .
  3. Society's need
    • When you look at the world around you, what needs do you see? What are some things that your closest friends and peers need? Is there something you can think of that would make their lives better?
    • What are the needs of people in your immediate context (your dorm, your classes, your major, Messiah College)?
    • What are the needs of people in your regional context (PA or your home state, The United States)?
    • What are the needs of people in other areas of the world (Russia, Africa, South America, etc.)
    • Have you heard your parents, teachers, or others who are *not* in your peer group talk about problems in the world today? What are they concerned about?
    • What challenges are being introduced to our society as a result of technology? Are you concerned about loss of privacy? Illegal downloading of music and videos? List as many as you can.
    • What other problems are we facing today? Racism? Sexism? Terrorism? Abortion? List as many as you can.
